J.E. Seamans Scholarship
Each year, the county offers a scholarship to local students interested in pursuing a farming and ranching degree to aid in their education efforts. The 2010 winner was selected from several really qualified candidates and the County Board was proud to present the award to Robbie Crawley of the Onalaska FFA.
J.E. Seamans was the Vocational Agriculture instructor at Livingston High School for 27 years. He started the Trinity-Neches Livestock and Sale that has been going strong for over 60 years. Each year, the Polk County Farm Bureau awards a student whose application is selected that exhibits the qualities that the namesake signifies. The J.E. Seamans Scholarship is funded entirely by the Polk County Farm Bureau in honor of the work and dedication Mr. Seamans contributed during his time at the high School and later for the Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Companies.
Shelby Gonzalez to represent Polk County in Miss Texas Pageant
Shelby Gonzalez, 18, of Livingston will be the first-ever Polk County representative to compete for the title of Miss Texas on July 2, 2010. Gonzalez is the reigning Miss Texas Farm Bureau and was also crowned Miss Polk County in 2009. The winner of the Miss Texas Pageant will move on to compete for the title of Miss America. Shelby enjoys singing, traveling, working out, shopping and spending time with family.
